There Is No Investment As Useful As Knowledge

There is no investment as useful as knowledge

You can give your children material things, but the best investments are actually something else entirely. The best investment is anything that gives them knowledge and helps them through life.

It’s like one of Benjamin Franklin’s most famous quotes says, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. It’s like an investment in yourself and others, and it’s the most valuable thing you could ever have.”

Santiago Ramón y Cajal was a Spanish scientist who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1906 for research into the nervous system. He also came up with the idea that the human brain is like a machine for making coins. If you put impure metal in it, you get junk in return. But if you put gold in it, you get a legally valid coin.

This idea is a perfect summary of why it’s important to feed your brain right. The best food is books and all the science that will help you understand more about the world.

Our knowledge of the world is limited, but our ignorance of it is infinite. The basic idea here is that we don’t know much, but at the same time it’s amazing how much we do know. What’s even more amazing is how little knowledge can lead to so much power.

Knowledge will set you free

Since the time of Socrates it has been clear that knowledge can free you from ignorance. But only the wise had access to science in the ancient world. Now almost anyone can create and distribute information, thanks to the internet. We have built up an unlimited network of knowledge.

In modern times, we have removed the physical, geographic, economic and social barriers to self-education. All it takes to hold information in your hands now is the desire.

But if so, why are fewer people reading and less investing in culture? We seem to have removed all barriers except the most important: realizing that only knowledge will set us free.

Socrates did not consider himself wise because he knew more than the people around him. He saw himself that way because he was aware of his own ignorance. So before making a decision or saying anything, he always made sure he was sure first.

He was so convinced that knowledge could liberate us that he was also convinced that if people ever understood what goodness and justice were, they would always choose that path.

He thought no one would consciously choose evil, and if they did, it would be out of ignorance. In other words, if a baker doesn’t make good bread, it’s because he doesn’t know how to do it. It’s not because they want to make bad bread.

Knowledge is the light through which you will find your way

“Knowledge is the light through which you will find your way.” This quote from Robert Fisher, author of The Knight in Rusty Armor, has an optimistic, constructive view of human potential. We could say that having information means discovering your own possibilities and limitations. It is also about looking for ways to overcome those limitations.

Knowledge is the light through which you will find your way. That means the more things you know, the more light you have within you. And in the end, nature gave us all the seeds of knowledge, not the knowledge itself.
