Developing your intuition doesn’t have to be difficult at all. In reality, it is a skill that you can nurture and perfect. Many people have a powerful and seemingly innate instinct. Yet instinct is more about going with the flow than about having the ‘right’ intuition.

These kinds of feelings are useful for a very important reason. Unlike rational and conscious decision-making, they are not based on information overload. This brings us to a kind of paradox. Because these kinds of feelings don’t just work in the conscious area, they take into account a lot more information. So if you need to make a quick decision, trust your gut.

Sometimes developing your intuition is not easy. You might think you’re putting it into practice, but you’re not getting the results you expect. This can happen because you are confusing your prejudices with your intuition. Prejudice is biased ideas that are deeply ingrained in you. They go so deep that you can’t tell if they’re your ideas or if you’ve learned them. How can we clear the fog that causes this confusion?

Let’s say you’re faced with a decision and your gut feeling tells you something like, “this person isn’t right for you.” At that point, you need to stop, analyze, and think about how much your prejudices affect your feelings. Notice if past experiences shake your idea of ‚Äč‚Äčthat person.

3. Mindfulness can be an important ally

Chances are you’ve heard about mindfulness and meditation. Both techniques help you focus on the present moment. They also help you free your mind from unhealthy thoughts. If you practice mindfulness and meditation, you will be able to pay attention to the details of your environment that you previously missed.

Mindfulness and meditation help you get in touch with yourself. They make you aware of the prejudices we discussed earlier. These are ideas that come from the society and culture you grew up in, but that are not part of you. With patience and at least five minutes of daily practice, you can free yourself from anxiety and stress. You connect with the here and now, and observe your thoughts without judgment. 4. Learn to be more empathetic

5. Playing with visualizations

Start by closing your eyes and imagining yourself in a beautiful place of your choosing. It can be a house, or a landscape. The idea is that you can see it, focus on it, and feel anything you imagine. You can feel the wind, the heat, the sun, a hug, something that grabs your attention, or a color. Take a few minutes to visualize, then open your eyes. You will feel great and you will have improved your intuition.

When we are small, we follow intuition more than reason. As we grow up, we begin to pay more attention to reason. Yet approaching everything with intelligence actually exceeds our cognitive capacity. It increases stress and leads to mistakes.

We all have this sixth sense, but many of us don’t pay enough attention to it. Listening to it will make you feel better and your life will have meaning.
